Explanations - Children
"Why are we going to meet a Psychologist?"
Sometimes Mum's, Dad's or teachers need a little bit of help from someone else (like a Psychologist) so as to better help their child with **things** (worries/tantrums/fights). This person- the Psychologist, will spend some time talking with your Mum/Dad about what has been happening for your family recently. Sometimes they might also ask questions about when you were first born. This might feel a bit strange as you might not always know about what happened when you were a baby.
Sometimes you might think that some of the things that are said are not true, the Psychologist would like you to tell us if this happens. You will never be on your own with the Psychologist unless you would like to speak to them on your own. You will be able to play with toys and colour in when you meet the Psychologist. If you have any worries or questions you can always ask your Mummy/Daddy or the Psychologist (who actually have real names like Paula and Jenny!) at any time. Other children that the Psychologists have seen say that coming to see them is 'ok' and 'not scarey'. We understand that you might worry about meeting someone new before you first see them and think about what they might be like, but they are quite kind and friendly people and sometimes they give stickers for being brave and coming to talk to them!!!
